This is my 5th year at JCHS CTE teaching Culinary Arts. My classes offer many
different options for students to learn about the art of Culinary and the food
service industry. My students are trained in safety and sanitation and knife skills
to get them started into the culinary world. Students have the chance to learn
how to cook different types of cuisine and how to work and function in a real time
restaurant atmosphere. My class also offers students the opportunity to get work
based learning with our mobile food trailer. Students start out in Culinary 1 to
learn the basics and can move up through Culinary 2, Culinary 3 and Culinary 4.
Culinary Arts also ties into Hospitality and Tourism. Students that want to go on
after high school to Culinary School can work with me to obtain duel credits if
they choose to go this route. Students will learn how to cook for themselves on a
daily basis from the classes I offer. This way they will obtain and keep the
knowledge to be able to cook themselves a hot meal if they choose too. I really
enjoy working with students and introducing them to the world of Culinary Arts.
We use the ProStart Foundations of cooking textbooks, which allow me to have all
my PowerPoint presentations I need to clearly outline the material needed for
class. I also have many different types of magazines and books based solely on
culinary and different types of cuisine. My students always have the option to
read any book or magazine I have so they can further their culinary knowledge. I
also keep conversion tables for students to read so they can do conversions
correctly and easily. My classroom and kitchen both have a 70” Smart TV in them
so we can always have information on hand for class.
